About Printer Test Page

A free set of printer test pages that print at their true size on Letter and A4, with a plain-English guide to what the result means.

Who made it

Printer Test Page is built and maintained by an independent web developer. It is not a printer company, a retailer or a support service, and it has no connection to any printer brand.

Why it exists

Many test pages online are an image of a sheet with a few lines of text. They print at whatever size the browser decides, rarely offer Letter and A4, and leave you to guess what a streak or a pale color means. This site was built to fix those three things: a sheet that prints at 100%, a choice of paper size, and a guide that takes you from what you see on the paper to what to do next.

How the test pages work

  • Every sheet is described as data in millimeters. The same description is drawn as SVG for the screen and the browser print, and as a PDF for download, so all three match.
  • Everything stays 12 mm from the paper edge, where most printers can print. Automated tests fail if any element crosses that margin.
  • Each sheet carries a 100 mm ruler and a 4 inch ruler, so you can check on paper that nothing was scaled.
  • Colors are defined as cyan, magenta, yellow and black ink values. The PDFs store them as CMYK; the browser version uses the matching screen colors, such as pure #00FFFF for 100% cyan.
  • Gradients are drawn in visible steps, so a drop in ink density shows as a gap.
  • All sheets and illustrations are drawn for this site. None are copied.

Which printers they were tested on

The sheets are being printed on real home and office printers before launch. The list of models and what we learned from each will be published here.
